Fever Swamp

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The air is moist. The moisture mixes with your sweat — the heat is relentless. The drone of insects gives you headaches, and the fever from the infected wounds has left you delirious. Your raft is damaged, and there are spirits in the trees.

You’ve only been here for three days.

Fever Swamp is a hex-crawl sandbox adventure compatible with Lamentations of the Flame Princess and most other Dungeons & Dragons clones.

Fever Swamp was written by Young Master Luke Gearing, previously famed for his contributions to the world's favourite outsider role-playing 'zine, The Undercroft, and illustrated by Andrew Walter, who surreptitiously inserted sigil magic into his work on our previous publication, Crypts of Indormancy, to uncertain ends. We encourage you to purchase and investigate it for yourself, for the greater good.

I've just purchased this and it's awesome. Is there a player map available?

I don't mean to be antagonistic, but is that £9 for a 32 page pdf? That seems quite expensive.

Our PDFs are priced around how much the physical books cost, which is priced based on production costs. We might mess with the formula for future releases to see what happens but it's unlikely to veer too wildly.

I would have bought this product but due to your comment that you price a pdf file as if it is a physical book is laughable......

The proportion of the ticket price of a book that accounts for material costs is generally about 10%-20%. It's industry standard for offset printing.

Are there currently any plans to make this available in print on demand?

No, we generally steer clear of POD. However if our postage rates are prohibitive and you're in the US you can get hard copies from Noble Knight Games

The postage rates are rather steep and I'm not in the US so I guess I'll just get the pdf and have it printed and stapled at a copy shop.

I am interested in learning more about the campaign world where Fever Swamp resides. What is the Empire? Is there any media about that somewhere already published? What about the city Nilfenberg? This all sounded very Warhammer FRPish to me, but if there is any existing write ups about it, I'd be interested in reading more.

Hey, author here. Odd snippets about the Nilfenbergian Empire exist on my blog, antlerrr.blogspot.com

The easiest way to describe it is as the Holy Roman Empire, but with the classical Roman Empire's focus on the capital, Nilfenberg - so the WFRP comparison is pretty fair.

What level range is this intended for?

It's playable from level 1 if the players are careful, with 4 or 5 being a more comfortable spot. However the nature of the swamp means it remains rather dangerous regardless of level.

I reckon the best way to include it in a campaign is to tell them it exists, is dangerous, and is full of treasure. If they turn up and decide it's a death-trap they can always leave and come back later.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
