Barbarians of Lemuria: Mythic Edition

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

The Second Age of Man is a savage time of sorcery and bloodshed, where strong men and beautiful women battle with warlords, priests, magicians and gladiators to carve a bloody path to the Throne of Lemuria...

Barbarians of Lemuria is a heroic role-playing game set firmly in the sword-and-sorcery genre. Lemuria is a post-apocalyptic world thousands of years in the future and unrecognisable to anyone from today. The continent has returned to an almost prehistoric state – a land of steaming jungles, vast untamed wildernesses, horror-filled swamplands, and sunbaked deserts. Massive man-eating beasts roam the unexplored regions of Lemuria and beyond, from island-sized sea serpents capable of sinking wargalleys, to the huge jungle-dwelling dinosaurs that can swallow a man whole.

Plain cover versions can be found here.

Included with the pdf purchase are:
- the main pdf in full colour
- the main pdf, print-friendly version
- a high resolution pdf map of Lemuria
- cover with artwork
- plain cover.

The BoL system is now available for adventures in all settings, called Everywhen. See here for the core book and available settings.

To the Publisher, please consider releasing a English version of the current (2023) French Edition of 'Barbarians of Lemuria: Mythic Edition'. The amazing artwork of French comic book illustrator 'Emmanuel Roudier' is absolutely fantastic. I bet you could easily Kickstart this and make a ton of $$$ to boot.

Just google Emmanual Roudier or go to this link to check out his artwork and see what I mean. http://www.ludospherik.fr/content/16-barbarians-of-lemuria-chroniques-lemuriennes

I think the German version (published by Truant at the moment) has the same art, and it's absolutely great (if not always safe-for-work). I'm a bit envious the French get even more books beyond the basic rules, and I hope the original English version catches up :)

No, no, no, Simon, the French translation doesn't look incredible at all! Peter Frain & the rest of the gang did a much better job. The French black & white (black & white, in 2023, c'mon!) illustrations are very often silly & the cover illustration makes it seem as if BoL were a dungeon crawling game... which it gloriously isn't. The British layout is also much better -cleaner & clearer- than the French one.

Yes, the French adventures are great & yes, some of the full-color illustrations are also very evocative & beautiful, but no, the French rulebook should definitely not be the base for a revised edition of BoL:ME. Definitely not.

"No, no, no, Simon, the French translation doesn't look incredible at all!"

Not sure what you are talking about, the French edition are miles ahead when it comes to layout and illustrations. It looks like it was made by professionals.

I would love to get English copy of the French edition tbh!

Dear God that French/German version is one of the most beautiful Rpg books I've ever seen. That cover is so evocative it immediately makes me want to play it (plus it matches my Lemurian Chronicles book). The interior presentation and illustration is so evocative and thematic it absolutely oozes and drips with S&S vibe and flavor.

BoL is already one of our top top favorite Rpg's, but I will buy another premium Hardback the moment you make an English language version of this available. Feel free to add even more art into it (but please don't remove any)

However, I would keep the incredible readability of the existing books bright red & purple for headers/chapters and bottom of the page number counts etc...

For those that hadn't already guessed, Ludospherik is to become the publisher of all things to do with Barbarians of Lemuria role playing. They will firstly publish a brand new edition of BoL next year (a translation of their fantastic French Edition with glorious artwork by Emmanuel Roudier). It will include the three adventures only found in the French version, plus two brand new adventures written by Garnett Elliott and by myself. This will be swiftly followed by the publication of Lemurian Chronicles 1 (an adventure book already translated in English and, for now, available only on Drivethru RPG), then Lemurian Chronicles 2 (“Le Dieu Voile”, The Veiled God, a whole saga), and Lemurian Chronicles 3 (with new background and adventures).

This is a great move for me and for BoL fans alike because it means the game will get the support it deserves and will give English speakers access to the great supplements that French-speakers have already been enjoying. And there will undoubtedly be more to...See more

Maqui Edicions published (under licence) the Catalan translation probably over ten years ago. I would think they sold out ages ago. My best guess is that you might find it on Ebay, possibly or in second hand stores. I'm not sure how many copies they printed - maybe only 100-200 or so. Otherwise I don't know how you can get hold of a copy. The French translation is excellent and still available (I think) in case you read French. They have published some superb sourcebooks and adventures too.

I would say it's one of the better games for that format. Not just because of the source material that favors singular heroes, but a character in BoL is quite resilient and capable. Yes, combat is quick and brutal, but a standard BoL character can hold their own. Of course, a GM will have to balance enounters. Easily done! One full scale baddie against a PC will do. More than that will overwhelm him/her. You can still throw hordes of rabble at a single character. A solo PC should still act with a bit of caution and may have to run when the odds are clearly stacked against them.

Please tell me the download includes a print-friendly version of the PDF that won't kill my toner-budget. Even at grayscale, I don't want background art on my PDFs. When I want to read something I want to see "text" and not something trying to compete for space on an art gallery wall.

I obtained a copy of the first edition PDF available for free at the Beyond Belief Games website and liked it thoroughly. Enough to want to support continued development. That was, until I saw the preview here. *cringe*. Background Art.. dammit. Just Stop Already!

Speaking of the "actual" art.. there's only a couple of art examples that one can see in the preview. But based upon that and from what I can see of the art on the other material in this product line, then I must say it completely lacks the pulp "swords and sorcery" vibe. It looks like Saturday morning cartoons. I half expect to see Skeletor somewhere. Sorry.. it just turns me off.

If there's a printer...See more

2.7 was a minor editorial update we made for the limited edition PoD available through the Kickstarter, which we also made available to the regular PoDs available on RPGNow / DriveThruRPG. It has not yet made its way to the electronic pdf.

We are currently busy getting Everywhen (the core set of rules for BoL:ME) ready for release (and the three setting books). When they are complete will will look to getting the electronic BoL:ME pdf updated.

It is was it is and I explained why above. The PoD document is different to the electronic pdf document. If you don't want to buy the most up-to-date version of the hardcopy because the electronic pdf is missing some *very minor* edits, then I can't help you at this time.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
pixel_trans.gif
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
