Strange Gravity [BUNDLE]
Publisher: Jay Treat

Strange Gravity is the best -- and hardest -- game I know.

Did Star Trek make you want to be a space doctor? Or Join a space navy? Or wander what it is like to BE a space alien? Do you want to explore strange new worlds IN SPACE?

Well ... now's your chance!

Strange Gravity is the best game for focusing on the parts of roleplaying games that make them distinct from board games. There's no dice. There's no miniatures. There's you and your friends, acting out and telling each other stories about amazing, wonderful characters and their catastrophically great adventures.

You'll -- quickly -- make characters and establish what sort of SPACE WORLD you are in. Then, you'll tell a tale like no other -- yours.

Maybe you'll marry a space whale or fight an alien. Or solve a glitch in the holographic XO. Or save a crewmember from her manipulative society.

All these worlds can be yours, but there's a price. That price is dedication. Bring your A game.

Strange Gravity is the hardest game I know. It makes me a better roleplayer everytime I play it. To play it is to deliberately practice your abilities as a gamer and facilitator. You will take on multiple roles -- your primary character, your narrative authority (everyone is a bit of a GM), and any NPC extras you get cast. You will switch between these, sometimes in the same scene. It will be hard, and some of the most worthwhile gaming you've ever played.

Buy this game. Play it with your friends. It will make you a more nuanced, more immersive -- dare I say better -- roleplayer.

#Feminism preview

Feminism contains games that have changed my perceotions, and made me a better person. I've played several of these games.

I feel I should mention my own demographics: 30ish, white, male, cis, straight. I play life on the easiest difficulty setting.

Shoutdown to Launch. This game focused on workplace sexism. I played in the group who are shouted over, denigrated, and whose ideas are stolen. The degree of discomfort on both sides was really intense. Jason Morningstar was at the table, and halfway through started repeating what I said almost verbatim -- speaking over me as I spoke.

This was fantastic. During the debrief, I came to terms with some of the discomfort, realizing some events in my own office environment where gendered interruptions occur -- and the ways in which I allow it and aid it. That is, playing shoutdown did exactly what I wanted: expanded my own perspective to make me more aware of ways I have failed in my own feminism.

We also played "So, mom, I made a porno". We had five players, and I was the sex and porn positive Aunt. While most of this was comfortable ground for me, the character's arguments include using sex for advancement. I struggled with this, trying to embody that using every tool available certainly makes sense, especially if the deck is stacked against you.

As I very much want to believe in a meritocracy, this was really hard for me! Coming to terms with that involved coming to terms -- again -- with life's fundamental unfairness. The play in this was much safer ground than many larps, and the shame coming from the grandmother was tempered with love for her seemingly wayward granddaughter.

The intergenerational views of feminism worked very well. The daughter and sister's feminism were still being formed, and at some point I ad libbed that the grandmother was on the pill for 30 years, making her face a degree of hypocrisy in her own views on sex.

These games were absolutely fantastic. Personally, these made me wrestle with issues that I can normally avoid. They make me a better person.

The Forgotten

Fair cop: I'm friends with the author. I am not financially involved at all.

The Forgotten brings out the best in players. The best players will be at their finest. Due to the connections between players, everyone is involved together and everyone cares. The connections are done Fiasco style, with relationships to your right and left. This creates an intense network.

I've had the pleasure of playing this game twice. The first time with Drew, the second time I facilitated it. Its that easy to pickup. It has tremendous replay value.

The Forgotten uses music to add to the ambiance, and as the game master. No person needs to facilitate, and everyone can play. The music can be set to as long as you want, such that the game can take 2, 3 or 5 hours depending on preference. By virtue of being a larp, The Forgotten forges strong emotions.

This is a best of breed work, using a lot of current work in the larp space to make a very accessible and fantastic game.
