Jonathan Roberts cartographer for Kobold Quarterly and Adventures in the Hyborian Age, presents another Fantastic Map: "The Dragon's Lair”. This multi-page PDF allows you to print out the battlemap at a 1 square=1 inch scale as a letter-format map and is also available in a printer-friendly light grayscale version. High-Resolution Jpegs of the Maps with and without grids. The file also contains two maptool campaign files set up for quick use in the  4.0 version of the world's most popular roleplaying game and its 3.5 thriving spiritual successor. Finally, all the component pieces of art that went into the construction of the maptool files are included separately. The Maptool file requires Maptool 1.3b60 or newer to work.

"A Dragon's Lair, the ultimate challenge for any adventring company! Brave the dark fortress and toxic expanses of lava"

The titular lair in this product consists of an “audience chamber” connected to a warren of tunnels. One cavern holds signs of the dragon’s hoard, in the form of a scattering of gold coins. Otherwise, decorations are pretty sparse. The amount of [...]

Sometimes I don't need a module, all I need is a good map. "The Dragon's Lair" is a good map. My kids love to play with minis and while I can scribble on graph paper, a good scale map for minis is more than I want to do. This product, plus so [...]

As with the other maps of this series, the Dragon’s Lair comes with full color high res maps, 1” = 5’ scale maps for miniature use in both full color and printer friendly black and white, and Maptool files and objects for those who use virtual ta [...]

I must say that I found the map to be quite interesting. It has a good layout, a choice of color or grayscale, and the maps are highly detailed. There are two factors which detract from the product as a whole. The first one is minor. I would have great [...]

The art is really good, as always with M.Roberts and it's a usefull tactical map. Just looking at it, ideas for encounters pop up like crazy. I was interested mostly by the MapTool version of the Map (see http://www.rpt [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
