In the world of 2015, technology makes the world go around.  Computers are ubiquitous, robots are becoming common place, and even biotechnology is in every home and school.  The infrastructure that keeps mankind waking up in the morning, going to work, eating, sleeping, and living is composed of a thousand thousand technological processes, each of which is networked into all of the others to make life run smoothly.

From time to time, small glitches in this massive system pop up.  These are annoyances in the day of the common person ,making them miss a meal, be late for work, or slows down the busy pace of their frenetic life.  The system self-corrects, for the most part, and these glitches are either corrected, or adapted to.  Life goes on.

In the rare circumstance that the system experiences a major malfunction, there is hell to pay.

#2:  Mall of the Future

Welcome to Los Cruxes Mall!  Located in Anywhere, U.S.A., Los Cruxes is a marvel of neo-modern architecture and computer-assisted shopping.  Constructed at a cost of over ten million dollars, it boasts four major department stores, and over a hundred and twenty stores, shops, food stalls, and restaurants for every need of a busy society.  What’s more, the mall’s unique Security, Cargo, and Display (S.C.D.) system uses the most innocuous part of any mall, the store Mannequins, to not only display clothing and merchandise, but also as night security, cargo handling, maintenance, and cleaning crew!  This keeps the operational costs of the mall very low, allowing the store space to be rented for a song.  More profit for everyone!

The mall’s central processing computer not only controls the robotic mannequins of the S.C.D. system, but also keeps the stores’ inventory records, sales receipts, and personnel files.  It manages credit transactions, banking, and security.  It has but one driving goal… to keep the mall insanely profitable for everyone involved!

When people start going missing around the mall, it seems like a minor thing… people disappear all of the time.  After all, it isn’t a LOT of people.  But the new mannequins start to look more and more familiar, and for some reason, they all have a haunted look on their faces.  Anyone who thinks it’s a problem is more than welcome to talk to mall security.  Just don’t threaten the mall’s profit margin…

This is a malfunction that needs to be fixed, and fixed soon.

How to Use This Book

This is another in a series of “Major Malfunctions,” breakdowns in the background of the world of HOT CHICKS: The RPG.  It is a supplement for that game; you will need the core rulebook in order to play.

This book provides both the game information on the situation involved, and a visual guide to the victims, the villain, and their interaction.  Some reader discretion is advised, as there is brief nudity and mature situations involved.

It includes details about the Los Cruxes mall, its robotic Mannequins and the computer that guides them, as well as situational information about the problems that the mall is experiencing, and why people may have to do something about it.

Then there is a gallery of full-page, full color images including details of a common shopper at the mall, the mannequins that work there, the central processing computer, and what goes wrong when they all come together.

Finally, we provide the game statistics for the Mannequins and the Mall Central Processing Computer.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
