This is a free quick-start guide to the bestselling Deadball: Baseball With Dice, a fast-paced baseball dice game for one or two players that uses real statistics to bring the ballpark to your tabletop.

Deadball uses real statistics that every fan knows and understands, like batting average and ERA, allowing new players to pick it up in minutes. Because the game is based directly on real, freely-available stats, you can play as any team you want.

Any. Team. You. Want.

Pit history's greatest teams against each other. Replay seasons from fifty years before you were born. Watch today's all-stars go head-to-head with the legends of the past. Any match-up you can imagine, Deadball will make real.

This free guide contains:

  • A brief introduction to the game's core concepts
  • A blank scorecard, with instructions for creating a lineup, for players who wish to write in a lineup of present-day or historical players
  • A pre-filled scorecard, featuring the players of Deadball's fictional Southern Circuit, for players who would rather jump straight into the game
Once you've played the quick start, you can dive straight into either the main rulebook, which is designed for all eras of play from 1920 to the present, or Deadball: 1909, a standalone expansion that reworks the game for the gritty, low-scoring era of the early 1900s.

A NOTE ABOUT DICE: This guide does not come with dice. You can play Deadball with any standard set of RPG dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d00, d12, d20), or a dice-rolling app.

It is as promised a neat way to play baseball across generations. I played the 27 Yankees versus the 54 Indiands . Early Wynn and his bullpen was too much for the famed Yankees to deal with . I am so going to play it again . [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
