Nightfall (high school supernatural drama with the cypher system)

Dark forces are descending on a small rural town. Unnatural creatures prowl the woods. Things stir about in the graveyard. In the heart of town, a wicked witch conspires to become Homecoming Queen. And you have a test in the morning.

Meanwhile, you and your friends are in the woods trying to catch a dead body. It runs surprisingly fast. As you start to catch up with it, you hope that noise you hear behind you is your buddies finally catching up. You need to get this over with -- you've got a history test in the morning. Then the real horror begins.

Nightfall is an attempt to utilize the Cypher System to create gameplay experiences in the tradition of television shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Teen Wolf, and Smallville.  You play nosy teenagers in a small town overcome with supernatural troubles.

While the basic Cypher System character types of Warrior, Explorer, Adept, and Speaker are fine for adventure and high-thrill heroics, the four new character types in this book were made with teenage investigators in mind, and contain abilities more oriented toward unique roleplaying experiences rather than just excelling in combat.

The heart of this product is the four new character types introduced:

- The Contender, who inspires confidence and competency in others, excels in physical endeavors, and benefits from competition with other contenders

- The Charmer, who utilizes a new mechanic of influence to harness the power of his social network. It's not just about what you can do, its about who you know.

- The Scholar, who gains confidence and capabilities through extensive research done beforehand. He manages a pool of secret information, which he can spend during the game to give himself (and the group) key advantages.

- The Sleuth, who speciqalizes in getting in and out of trouble on his own, with expertise in both deceptiuon and stealth as well as uncovering secrets and exposing the hidden.

Also included is over a dozen pages of bonus material including tips & tricks for running a campaign in a high school setting and utilizing the static nature of recurring characters and locations to enhance your game.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
