#Feminism - A Nano Game Anthology

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Looking at the world through a feminist lens reveals absurd, tragic, and fascinating situations.

Written by feminists from eleven different countries, #Feminism offers bite-sized takes on contemporary feminist issues. Each of the 34 nano-games in this collection requires between three and five participants, simple (if any) props, and up to an hour of play time.

The games range from silly to serious, including scenarios about selfies and rom-coms as well as reproductive rights and domestic violence. And of course, enjoyment has no ideological boundaries— there are games here for participants new to feminism as well as those experienced in making gender arguments on the internet.

Since my tabletop RPG groups have been returning to in-person play after almost two years of global pandemic, we've been dusting off a few rules-light games for themed one-shots in order to get back into the swing of face-to-face gaming and exercise our rusty social skills. International Women's Day falls on 8.March and on our regular game night in this Year-of-our-Lord 2022, so a few of us are gonna play a nano LARP or two from #Feminism.

Patrick, your question is kind of splitting hairs or moving the goal post or something. It's a bit defeatist.

I'm looking at the scenarios, and some will have fun with a certain dynamic that will help you posit further questions, critical or otherwise, from a feminist framework. That could be funny if you are funny, sobering if you are dead serious, sensitive if you are sensitive, etc.

What I look for in an indie RPG is just that: roleplaying. And a consistency of the vision based in this design and scene building. I think this is a truly unique set of scenarios. It gets full scores for braving a number of dimensions of RPG such as monoscenes, nano-games, DMless play, non-campaign.

Then there's the courage and presence that comes with telling a compelling story. Think of the best television in recent times: you may not have considered that 60s advertising in itself, nor south-western crystal meth manufacturing were subjects you ever wanted to visit. But a story manages to...See more

Does this game take a serious balanced look at feminism or does it assume a simple "female good, male evil" point of view? A game that takes a considered, balanced, and deep look at the issues I can see might be a rewarding experience to play.

#Feminism is not just one game, but 34 games in one anthology. With so many writers making so many games taking on so many different character perspectives, I'd say you're getting a pretty well-balanced look at Feminism. Then again, LARPs and tabletop RPGs are only as good as the people who play'em, so any one gaming group's experience of play will vary.

The feminism I don't mind, but that hashtag XXX is unforgivable.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
