 About Heroic Maps

Our game boards were originally designed to be used with Heroquest.  That's why you'll notice we don't mark the doors or add furniture - you can put these wherever you want them, using you favourite system (paper or 3D).  This will mean the board can be different every time you use it. You can download our free door pack here:

Heroic Maps boards are flexible enough to be used with many game systems.

I am playing again and wanted to use my tiles. I printed out some and went to print some doors. Somehow I do not have the doors PDF. Came to re-download it and it seems you have removed the doors PDF. Is it available somewhere else, even as a paid file?

What format are the modular parts in, are they compatible with Mapforge, for example?

Hi, does this come as basic lined drawings? I currently have a monochrome printer so I don't everything to just be grey though that's not a huge deal. Looks like some quality maps :)

Trying to use these on Roll20 makes me wish I still had a group around an actual table. Is there any way to make these work with a snap-to-grid setup?

I'm not an expert on Roll20 so maybe it's best to ask about using non-square objects on Roll20 forums. One thing you could do is make the composite layout as a large single image in Photoshop or equivalent, and then import the full thing

Hi Dave. The default page size is A4 (international standard). If you're printing on letter or another US size you might run into some issues. Either scale the tiles to fit at 91% (giving 1" squares), or find some A4 paper to print on to. Alternatively, since the PNG files are provided, you could print those directly and specify the use of letter paper.

I'm also having trouble with the PNG images aligning to the Roll20 grid. The walls don't even need to change, just add enough transparent space in the PNG to hold the tiles to a grid of squares. Also, users can't upload any images over 10MB on Roll20 (free accounts are limited to 5MB. Paid accounts are limited to 10MB). The big rooms look pretty awful compared to the hallways when I resize them. This is an issue with multiple tile sets I've purchased, not just this one.

This is an awesome tile set that really adds a lot at the physical table. If you make some tweaks for ease of use, these will definitely wow my virtual table, too.

This Modular kit are great, but i wish it has a stair tile (up and down) like HeroicMaps_Abandoned_Dwarven_Hold_Corridors23 and HeroicMaps_Abandoned_Dwarven_Hold_Corridors31.
Thanks Joseph!

Whenever I print these off they don't print off to scale (for exaple the Corridor_Small2 will be theexact same size as the CorridorQtrCircle.) Do you have any ideas as to how I would go about fixing this?

What are you using to print them? Sounds like something like 'Windows Image Viewer'. If you select 'Do Not Scale' or '100%', or print direct from the pdf at 100%, the scaling will be right.

Thanks for the prompt response! Printing directly from the PDF is the solution. Thanks!

hi im trying to use this kit on roll20 but the walls trow out the grid can you make the size of the images with a grid in mind for exsample the HeroicMaps_Dungeon_Corridor_Small image size is a 2 by 1 image + walls so its 4by1 on a grid but the size of 994 * 338 makes it a 3by1. for this image its not to bad but the outer images its a lot of work to get the image to Aline with the grid

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
